How can I make my teeth look straight without orthodontics?

Here at Gentle and Caring we offer veneers and composite bonding as an alternative to braces and orthodontics for minor tooth alignment issues…

Don’t like the idea of having to walk around with orthodontics for months on end? There may be a better way for you to makeover your smile.

Here at Gentle and Caring Dentistry in Maroubra, we offer a plethora of cosmetic treatments designed to enhance your smile in as little as one or two appointments – depending on your needs.

Your emotional balance of confidence and happiness is mirrored by your smile

Did you know that a Kelton smile survey conducted in August, 2012 revealed that 48% of participants believe that a smile matters most when making a first impression? A smile even trumped “the first words someone says” which only earned 25% of votes.

So what does your smile say about you?

Many people speculate that different types of smiles in different situations can send different messages to the individuals you are sharing them with.

In the workplace, a smile says you’re flexible, intelligent and competent. When it comes to friends, a genuine smile could say you’re non-judgemental and approachable.

Basically in most situations people see genuine smiles as a signal of trust and reliability but where the smile is false, it could be interpreted as a suspicious notion – isolating the wearer and portraying them as deceitful.

Renew your smile with composite bonding and veneers

Here at Gentle and Caring Dentistry in Maroubra, Sydney, Dr Roxanne Irani focuses her efforts on providing her patients with an all-encompassing approach to their general, restorative and cosmetic dental concerns.

Composite bonding and dental veneers offer an opportunity to rejuvenate your smile by providing an effective method of masking alignment, discolouration and other cosmetic concerns.

Composite bonding

By combining technique and state-of-the-art materials, our team at Gentle and Caring Dentistry are able to offer a conservative approach to renewing your smile. Composite bonding is a procedure that involves 2 different steps:

  1. Preparing your smile

After working out the treatment plan, we will carefully prepare your teeth for the bonding materials by roughening the surface of the teeth which are to be treated. This is done so the resin material is able to bond securely to the teeth and is generally only applied to teeth within the ‘smile-zone’ (the front teeth that can be seen when you smile).

  1. Setting the resin

Once the teeth are prepared, our dentist will carefully apply the resin materials to the surface of the teeth. This will be layered and shaped on the teeth until it looks the way you prefer. We will then harden the resin so it is permanently bonded to your teeth.

Composite resin can be applied in a single appointment and can make the teeth look whiter and more attractive. However when it comes to making the teeth appear straighter, the most significant change composite bonding can make is filling in the gaps between teeth, covering chips and changing the shape of the teeth.

When it comes to making the teeth appear aligned, the best alternative to orthodontics would be dental veneers.

Dental veneers

Somewhat similar to composite bonding, dental veneers provide a cover over the natural teeth that can make them look whiter, straighter, longer, stronger, smaller, complete or gap free depending on the results you are after.

Made out of a thin shell of porcelain, veneers are custom designed to suit your natural smile. The procedure is generally carried out in two separate appointments:

  1. Preparing your smile

After discerning your needs and suitability, Dr Irani will prepare your teeth by removing a slight amount of enamel. This is necessary so the veneers don’t look bulky and appear natural over the surface of your teeth.

After the teeth are prepared, we will take an impression of your smile and send this to a laboratory that will design and fabricate your new veneers. In the mean time we will fit you with temporary veneers.

  1. Setting the veneers

In your second appointment, our team will carefully place your new veneers over the surface of your smile.

The benefits of porcelain veneers include:

  • Stain resistant
  • Durable and strong
  • Long lasting
  • Can be colour-matched to teeth for a natural look
  • For minor alignment, can make teeth appear straight

Do you feel confident about sharing your smile?

In the UK, a survey decreed that nearly half the population are unhappy with their teeth. Hiding your smile because of cosmetic concerns such as misalignment or discolouration doesn’t only hinder your capability to move forward in the workforce but it can even affect your ability to meet a partner; impeding on your self-esteem levels and your overall happiness.

Your smile is an asset – enjoy it!
