Check-Ups

Receiving regular dental check-ups are vital for keeping your teeth and gums healthy!

Waiting when you have a problem with your teeth or gums could be the worst thing you do for your dental health. If you experience any pain, inflammation or swelling within the mouth, or notice any other changes in the mouth, a dental check-up could make the difference between stopping a dental issue and a decline in oral health!

Often it is difficult to know if you actually have an issue with your smile, and could be surprised by what our dentist may find! Early detection to dental issues in any form including gum disease and tooth decay allows us to prevent any further damage from occurring – saving you time and money later.

Dental check-ups are not purely for aesthetics; they remove deposits of plaque and actively reduce the likelihood of periodontal (gum) disease, decay and inflammation above and below the gum line.

During your check-up we will look for a wide range of dental issues…

These dental issues include:

  • Gum disease
  • Tooth decay
  • Tooth wear/erosion
  • Cracked or damaged teeth
  • Discolouration
  • Oral cancer

A check-up at Gentle and Caring Dentistry often includes gum check-ups, examinations of the periodontal pockets, scaling of your teeth, assessment of oral hygiene practices, and cleaning above and below the gum line.

As part of an oral examination, it may be necessary to take checkup x-rays of the teeth and gums, in order to check in between the teeth, underneath any existing fillings and restorations, and under the gums, where we cannot see.

After this assessment is complete, we then may give you a full gentle dental clean and polish to remove any presence of bacteria on the teeth and enhance the health of your smile. We will also completely inform you of anything we may find, including how we would recommend treating it and what it would involve.

Application of Fluoride

After your routine check-up Dr Irani typically conducts an in-office fluoride treatment. A fluoride application strengthens the enamel, re-mineralises and hardens the teeth and makes teeth less prone to decay and acid attack using the naturally occurring mineral (fluoride).

An in-office fluoride treatment from Gentle and Caring Dentistry should be continually applied throughout life to harden, strengthen and restructure tooth enamel for your dental health.

How often should I have a check-up?

Based on your dental and medical history, we will recommend how often you should visit us for a professional check-up, scale and clean. This is generally twice a year, however some patients may require more or less frequent visits. We pride ourselves in excellent service with a gentle touch, as Dr Irani takes great pride in her work, you can have peace of mind for all work done in her expert hands.
