General Questions
What constitutes a dental emergency?
While some emergencies are very obvious, there are times when you may question whether your dental problem requires immediate attention. In most cases we encourage patients to get in contact as soon as possible. If you are suffering from any of the following call us:
- Missing a tooth
- Chronic pain
- Discomfort
- Cracked Teeth
- Bleeding gums
- Loose adult teeth
We believe it is always better to be safe than sorry, and our trained administration staff can discuss your dental concerns and determine the level of urgency for your dental needs.
If you find yourself with a tooth knocked out, chronic toothache pain or a loose adult tooth, this definitely constitutes a dental emergency and we encourage you to contact our Marboubra dental practice as soon as possible.
What to do in a dental emergency?
Whether your tooth is cracked, chipped or completely missing it is important to contact us to schedule you in for treatment. An emergency doesn’t always have to involve a fracture which is why we encourage our patients to think of severe toothaches as an emergency, as well as cracked or broken teeth. In the unfortunate case of tooth loss (a knocked out tooth) we have some simple instructions to follow on your way to our office.
- Handle the tooth by the crown (the top part) and avoid touching the root
- Gently rinse the tooth in milk
- If possible, place the tooth back into its socket
- Visit our team of dental professionals at Gentle and Caring Dentistry
If you have dental pain and aren’t able to make it into our practice today be sure to treat your mouth delicately; avoid hot or hard foods, try not to bite or grind your teeth and avoid touching the area with your fingers or tongue.
The importance of seeking immediate attention
Your teeth and the function of your mouth is imperative to daily actions like eating and speaking, which is why it is so important that you get the care you need as soon as possible. If you leave your damaged teeth untreated you could be subjecting your mouth to the spread of bacteria, shifting teeth or even tooth loss.
